GoTrivia doesn't have accounts, doesn't run ads, and doesn't sell or share data with advertisers. This page explains, plainly, the little it does collect.
When you first open a game, your browser generates a random ID and remembers it in localStorage, along with whatever nickname you type in — that's how you rejoin a room or resume a game later. Neither is tied to your name, email, or any other personal information, because we never ask for any. Clearing your browser's site data removes it completely.
A room you create or join — its code, settings, the nicknames and scores of players in it — lives in our database only for as long as the game is active, and is automatically deleted a couple of hours after it goes idle. Finished-game scores are kept on the public leaderboards indefinitely (just a nickname and a score — nothing that identifies you personally).
While a game is live, moves and scores are broadcast to the other players in your room via Pusher, a realtime messaging service — this is how everyone sees updates instantly instead of refreshing the page. We also use Vercel Web Analytics for anonymized, aggregated pageview counts (no cookies, no individual tracking) so we know which pages are actually useful.
